A guardianship of an estate of a ward is settled and closed if:
- A minor ward dies or becomes an adult;
- An incapacitated ward dies or is restored;
- The spouse of a married ward is qualified as survivor in community;
- Negligible income;
- All assets have been placed in a management trust
- Court order; or
- A minor’s estate consisting of less than $100,000.
If any of the above situations exists, the guardian should prepare a verified account for final settlement setting out the specific reason that the guardianship should be settled and closed.
